Безымень, 2012

Moulded, cast, melted and remade into a copy of its original form, the delicate crystalline alloy structure within a meteorite is destroyed in seconds, after forming over billions of years, and is replaced by a sympathetic display stand: a plastic platonic solid, or octahedral dice. A banner shows a reversed image of the original natural specimen, now replaced by its double, while a museum label acknowledges those whose expertise enabled the transformation.

Sikhote-Alin meteorite (Iron, Coarsest Octahedrite, Class IIB), ‘glass’ wax, PVC mesh, galvanised steel scaffold, Cordierite shelf, Aulektro lens, steel, text on paper, cable ties.
