Artisan White Poplar Chipboard, 2011
Replacement of a cheap and functional art school building material with a labour-intensive and hand-made luxury alternative. A Poplar tree from nearby Burgess park, Southwark, represents a suitable species of European provenance, whereas Donald Judd favoured Douglas Fir especially for its North American associations and origin. The tree was cut, transported, shredded, dried, glued and pressed to form tablets, then cut to size and square.
Single Populus alba, PVA wood glue.
